Why the feck is Martinez on the bench?
A week and a half ago he was partying with Argentina. Shaw and Malacia at LCB and LB will cancel their right side, be it Bernardo or Mahrez.

On the other side you have AWB who we're sure will gonna pocket someone.

The key against Pep's teams is to nullify his flanks and that is what ETH is doing.

Martinez wouls have been bullied and targeted anyway.

I really like Erik, he truly doesn't do favourites unlike he who shall not be named. Antony and Martinez would have been classed as that but they've been dropped for the biggest game of the year because they haven't looked good recently.

He also learned that we needed a 3 man midfield with energy so isn't making the same mistake as last time. Some managers have too much pride to make that change.

Not a fan of Bruno on the right but if the game gets close, Antony and Garnacho coming on could trouble them in the second half.

Why is Pellestri missing from the bench and Ellanga is still there?

Trust the boss, but can’t say I agree with that defence. Malacia is frankly bang average and we lose a lot going forward without Shaw at LB, a loss that I don’t think is offset by some sort of significant upgrade with Shaw over Martinez.

Would rather have had Shaw at LB and Martinez in.
Fred included is good and hopefully we can deal with the Yeti

Ive become numb in the past 5-6 years that I never get nervous for big games anymore. Everything had been ruined, nothing to lose. The fact that at least I will be watching likeable players playing for a likeable manager who is not clueless is already good enough for me.

Great to see Kobbie there as didn't expect that one, however gutted Pellistri misses out for Elanga
Unless pellistri has a loan imminent, yeah, would have followed up that cameo with a reward on the bench

If Bruno is out wide that makes me want to die. Never seen him play well out there. He needs to have a good game today.

A left back playing at CB and a #10 pushed out to RW while our big money CB and RW signings sit on the bench. Truly we have found our own Pep Guardiola is my idol to lead us to glory.

But yeah, I'm sure ETH has his reasons and fecked if I can work out the tactical intricacies of this game in advance. Should be fun!
Starting with a midfield 3 is a good decision. Shaw at CB is a risk but I guess Lisandro is still not up to speed.

The big call is Martinez on the bench, Shaw in centre and Malacia left back. Unless he has a knock, I’m very surprised Martinez doesn’t start and Shaw starts on the left. But in ETH we have to trust! Fred in the engine room for more solidity which is fair enough.

Shaw did decent enough as CB against Wolves and Forest, but wasn't good at all against Everton. Now CB against City? Against Haaland? Why? Meanwhile, Malacia was absolutely rotten against them last time. Now he starts again? And Fernandes on the right where he has consistently proven to be not good?

    Nah, that ain't it, chief.

Glad we got both Fred and Casemiro in CM. Also Bruno and Eriksen further forward will give us more composure and control in that area of the field.

If Licha wasn't quite ready, and the choice was between Shaw and Maguire, I'm glad ETH opted for Shaw. Maguire would be a disaster waiting to happen in this match. He's already had several disaster moments in his short cameos against worse teams, no way should he be starting this.

I like that few have realised martinez has been dropped for a while now . It was obvious since the Everton game

My concern is less about Martinez not starting, but more about Malacia playing. I fear he will get ripped apart by Mahrez

I'm really glad that we went for a proper midfield three. But Martinez on the bench is a worry :(

He's also got de brunye to deal with on the right side

I understand the thought process behind the team especially with the bench allowing us to change it if we need to chase or even hold on.
Bruno right and eriksen higher up negates an obvious weakness.

We do lose balance on the right especially with Dalot out.
