Mourinho is just as scared from us as we are. I expect him to put on a defensive team. It's up to us to break it up.

I don't think we have the personnel to "park the bus" especially with Ramires out injured and the Fabregas acquisition. Oscar will start for sure, he's key to our possession game and is in cracking form. He was a massive miss against Man City.

Team is pretty straightforward for us with Azpilicueta suspended and barring any injuries after tonight's game. Only real question mark is Diego's fitness.

Chelsea fear top goalscorer Diego Costa could be ruled out for the next three weeks.
That leaves manager Jose Mourinho with the threat of a striker crisis hanging over him ahead of next week’s clash against Manchester United.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...y-could-rule-striker-out-for-three-weeks.html

Chelsea have been rocked by the news that star striker Diego Costa could be ruled out for three weeks due to the troublesome hamstring that is currently effecting him.
Initial reports had suggested that he would be fine to face Crystal Palace but Mourinho confirmed in his press conference before the game that he was a doubt and now some reports have suggested that he will need a rest of three weeks in order to ensure that he recovers fully.

Chelsea fear Diego Costa will be ruled out of their trip to Manchester United next weekend after the Spain striker was finally forced to rest the troublesome hamstring that has dogged him all season.
Mourinho takes his team to Old Trafford on Sunday with Costa’s involvement already in considerable doubt, even with a week of rest ahead, including missing Tuesday’s Champions League game against Maribor.

Lol can people stop with the hysterical shit please. Chelsea is not going to win with big numbers, you're just overestimating them and underestimating United. I expect a draw or a win for Chelsea but a scrappy win to be fair.

Sir Alex Ferguson has his say on Moyes
    sralex.png

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has had his say on David Moyes' doomed spell in charge of the club.

You can read the full extract in The Guardian here, where he says he tried to persuade Moyes to keep Phelan on as assistant manager, how he tried to keep his distance yet still spoke to Ferdinand and Evra about their United futures, and dismissed claims that he left behind an antiquated system.

    De Gea
    Rafael - Smalling/McNair - Rojo - Shaw
    Blind
    Carrick - Di Maria
    Ander
    Falcao - RvP (gulp)
It's really the only way to get the best out of Di Maria, which will need to do. The mobility of Carrick/Blind will be a worry, as will van Persie stealing Falcao's oxygen- space but I don't think a rigid 4231 will really work. Unless we play a 4321; which Herrera and Januzaj playing just behind Falcao, with Herrera dropping deeper and being a nuisance freeing up space for di Maria.

I don't think there's a chance in hell Carrick starts against Chelsea after 3 months out. More likely we'll see Mata/Fellaini and Carrick introduced as a sub.

Playing with two strikers, especially when one is 2014's version of RVP is really going to hurt us here.

Playing with three strikers against MCFC is going to hurt us even more.

I can see Ashley Young starting this one for his defensive work-rate and ability to tuck inside as another body in central midfield. Allows us to be very flexible with the formation as well.

feck me... talk of Fellaini and Ashley Young starting. Might have to tune this one out.

At least Fellaini did well in his last 45 minute cameo. But still... the past year strongly suggests (screams) yesterday was the extreme exception and not the rule.

    4-2-3-1

    Falcao

    Di Maria Rooney Valencia

    Blind Carrick

    Shaw Rojo Jones Rafael

    De Gea

I think this is our strongest 11 which has a decent balance in both attack and defense.
Rooney can't play so Herrera instead of Mata in the CAM.
442 diamond is a good formation, but one defensive mid against Chelsea is too risky.

Really don't want to see RvP in this one. Would rather, and I can't believe I'm saying this, bring on Valencia for reassurance on the wings. He hasn't been that bad defensively and I just can't see tumescent, uncaring RvP wiggling his way around Cahil and Terry. He'll just strut around the box and hope Di Maria can make it land on his foot rather than actually offering some movement. Of course, I know he'll start and I know the formation will be more or less the same as against West Brom, with Falcao on instead of Januzaj, but what I'd like to see is.

    1-4-4-1-1
    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
    Valencia Fellaini Blind Di Maria
    Mata
    Falcao

And no, I'm not one of those people who thinks Fellaini is suddenly our best player. In fact, I fully expect him to sink into the shite form he was in last year, which I can't really call "form", more so "his usual self". Yet having a big guy like him in midfield could at least give us a fighting chance. And he also rarely makes sprints with the ball, so he rarely gets tired and can last the full 90 minutes if he needs to. If he's poor or a liability, bring on Carrick or Herrera depending on whether the "big man in midfield" strategy is working, or if we need more pace. Herrera needs some time off the pitch to see that his starting spot is in contention and he won't waltz into our first 11. He's such a competitive and motivated player that I fully expect him to defend his starter spot with a beastly performance.

Ideally I would put Herrera instead of Mata and play a clasic 4-5-1 with a lone prowling striker in Falcao and major presence in midfield, but unfortunately that's just not something van Gaal will do and we can be sure we'll see Mata in the #10. I really doubt his "experience with Chelsea" is going to help us in any way. Mou is a dynamic manager and this Chelsea side is an absolute worldbeater, nothing compared to what it was back when Mata was still in it. For all intents and purposes, we can play this game under the assumption that we're playing a side we've never faced before.

Overall, if we are to have any chance in this game, it'll have to come from outscoring Chelsea. This defence will be an absolute meal for Costa and I can easily see Chelsea scoring lots, regardless of how hard we try to defend - our shite deenders just can't stop him - so the only thing we have going for us is attack, attack and attack. Which is why van Persie shouldn't start. He's been wasteful, squandering chance after chance after chance. We're going to get very few chances in this game and we need someone who will convert. Both him and Falcao have been wasteful, but Falcao is on the rise and will only be getting better, while van Persie looks a spent force. Unfortunately, he will start, so it's rather easy to predict the outcome of this one.

I honestly can't see us conceding less than 3 goals... I predict 1-4.

I might give this game and the city game a miss, not sure I can hare watching us in these 2 games.

Costa and Remy out for them, think mourinho will be pleased with a draw in this game to be honest. He's not going to be one of the knee jerk fans who think we're shite and they'll comfortably win, its at old Trafford against a team who has players like di maria and Falcao. Probably the biggest chance that someone will get a win off them this season too, though it doesn't work like that obviously.

I think we'll get a win though. We have plenty of big game players in our team, the likes of di maria, herrera and Falcao always saved their best for the big games against barca, atletico or real Madrid. The sporting fans say rojo always stepped it up in them too.

Mourinho has form for taking good sides away from home and stinking the place out for a draw.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's 0-0 or a low scoring draw.

If Costa and Remy are out it's good news. Geriatric Drogba should be a lot more straight-forward to handle

True, and that's the only thing. The caf is ridiculously pessimistic today and people are really overreacting, we have great attacking players, we're playing on our own pitch, we should always be confident. Even more so because they'll be playing a 35 year old up front, or more realistically without a real striker and just put schurrle up top or something.

Costa will most likely be back for this game actually.

That's if you assume Mourinho is just lying, which is usually a fair shout but he said last weekend that he'll be ready early November didn't he? Today also said very very small chance for either of them. We'll see I guess.

Seeing as how Herrera is doubtful too, might be a good game to add some length in the squad just so that gimp Terry doesn't score from a corner or set piece.

A lot of people are putting Carrick in this right central midfield role. Don't think it would suit him at all.

He should play in a midfield two with Blind, or replace Blind as the deep lying midfielder (maybe move Blind left of the diamond for solidity and put Di Maria at the tip of the diamond to see what he can do centrally).

Herrera and Valencia are much more suited to the right side role.

Why do you guys have RvP in the lineup? He's not in form, and you can't have a passenger in a game against Chelsea. Put 2 defensive mids infront of back 4. Make the game cagey and try to nick it through a counter with Di Maria's pace and Falcao's finishing. Don't let Hazard and Cesc have time on the ball. Cesc definitely doesn't enjoy a physical battle.

We will start well, Chelsea will then start to get a foothold in the game. They will punish our backline.
    United 0-2 Chelsea (Hazard, Fabregas)
RvP will start again, Herrera will be out.
I'm going to stay away from the match day forum for the next fortnight I think. Not going to be pretty

We need a strong competitive midfield for this game. It won't be pretty from us as we won't have much of the ball.

    De Gea

    Rafael jones Rojo Shaw

    Blind Carrick
    Fellaini

    Mata falcao DI Maria

I think RVP will drop to the bench and Mata will get the chance. Oh and Costa will play for sure.

Both are unfit. The idea to play Carrick there was to help Rafael out when Hazard/Azpilicueta double up on that side. Fellaini can't do that. Carrick;s height comes in handy on set pieces as well. Otherwise Terry/Ivanovic/Matic etc would bully some of our players.

Will be a close one I think. Jose will try and jam out a 1-0 win while being conservative at the back.

Falcao needs to play the lone striker role, with RvP on the bench.

    My guess is 2-1 Chelsea.

    I think they'll beat us comfortably. 0-3 or 1-3.

I do wonder how they'll set up, is Ramires injured?
