How have we conned the league for a whole season in getting second place whilst the superior football playing team battle relegation.

    Ole witchcraft!
Do you watch both teams week in week out? That wasn’t even a negative post, because I predicted us to win. Brighton’s football is up there with the best in the PL.

I just wonder why they are fighting relegation if their game is so flawless

Maupay and Welbeck miss about a 100 chances per game, while their defenders have the potential to make massive individual errors. They became the first team to miss 2 penalties per game against WBA since City in 2016, somehow losing 1-0 with a 3.5 XG.

We should be able to beat them though. They play good stuff, but we have better players. This is the type of game Bruno and Rashford tears up.

I wouldn't say it's flawless. They are probably playing football in "the right way" as folks used to say. While they are a limited team they don't sit back and try to play anti-football. They go out to play, attack and score goals. A lot of times it backfires but you probably won't be bored watching them.

No I know. I think the point I'm making to that poster, and alot of others like him, is we are in a results business and it's all good and well making blanket statements like "they play much better football than us" but that's a very blinkered and narrow minded way to view the game. Playing pretty football isn't the only way to play. I'm sure our fans wouldn't be happy if we were playing the game "the right way" but went down. Nor would they bounce about the forum boasting at how easy on the eye we are.

Brighton aren't going down. They're 6 points clear of the relegation zone with a much better goal difference and a game in hand. It's also pretty obvious if you watch them regularly that they're a proper CF away from being a top 10 team employing an attractive and proactive style of football that puts them in a clear contrast to most of the teams around them.

I also prefer their style to ours; it's not 'blinkered or narrow minded' to say that they play a more appealing brand of football than we do. It doesn't mean it's more effective, it just means it's more pleasant on the eye. Plus it's the only real way you can actually compare the two teams. If you narrow it down exclusively to results of course we're better - we spent about £20 million more on Maguire than Brighton have on their entire starting XI. The clubs don't operate in the same spheres.

It doesn't make much sense when people criticize Burnley's brand of football or Stoke before them but there are no excuses to have United resources and play such dire football consistently like what we've seen in the last 8 years.

"Pretty" football is also synonymous now with great results and competing for the league, no team is winning a competitive league anymore without having an identity and consistent playstyle.

Even Brighton and Leeds are having as good a chance of staying in the league as Burnley and Newcastle while playing much better and more entertaining football.

Came here for the optimistic outlook on a new game.

    Left dissapointed.

It's possible to say they play nice football without trying to dig out United you know. Just a thought.

One poster did that. Why don’t you direct that to them rather than labelling the entire Caf a bizarre place?

If we played the exact same football as them, we’d be doing much better now, because with our quality of players, we’d be converting the chances their strikers blow on a weekly basis. We’d be 7 points better off for a start, because even trading in the City way, Potter’s football would have seen us torn Sheff Utd, WBA, Arsenal and Palace apart. It’s not blinkered or narrow minded at all. Everyone can see that in general, Brighton are easier on the eye than us. Even if you don’t watch Brighton, you’d have watched us play away to them and be lucky to avoid a smashing, let alone win. I’d say their a more solid and slightly less gung ho Leeds. Leeds are above them but I’ve already pointed out why.

As I said though, we have better players, so while they will create chances like in the away game, we should win. We’ve definitely improved since the reverse fixture too, where of course we were low of match fitness. Bruno will relish the extra space to run things. Bissouma is good, but not good enough to contain Bruno.

It is certainly possible, but what exactly is your issue with it? Do you think United play nice football?

We will probably play Martial, just because he's too shit to play for France.

Brighton have a much much much better striker in Welbeck.

That said, Pogba and Fernandes will give our team too much quality. 3-0 to United

It's just boring and tedious. The same old moans each week. As another poster pointed out they came here to read up on the game and share some positivity about the match but it's the same old shite complaining. There's plenty of threads to do it in.

This is Martial's worst season for us and he still has more goals and assists than Welbeck. In fact Martial has scored 8 more goals than Welbeck in 73 less appearances. I think you're confusing form with actual ability.

I have no idea what he was expecting. It’s the thread about Manchester United vs Brighton. In the match thread, it’s natural to compare....you know, the strengths and weaknesses of the two teams. Not really outlandish is it?

Against Sheff Utd, I said I thought Ramsdale is dreadful and that we should steamroll them (wrong).

Against Newcastle, I said Bruce plays some real tripe and that we have better players, sonshould beat them comfortably (right).

Against Chelsea, I said they don’t create many chances and we will set up more conservatively, so the game will finish 0-0 (right).

Against City, I mentioned their winning run and fluid football, thus thinking they would hammer us (wrong, thankfully).

Now against Brighton, I think they play much better football than us, but we should win because we have Bruno, who will get more space, and better players in general. Let’s hope we win, because obviously the game is still one and a half weeks away.

@TheReligion Honestly, I have no idea what you want me to say in a thread about Manchester United vs Brighton. Just name the teams and give my prediction? Well no, because I have an opinion on how they play because I’ve been fortunate enough to watch them play very often this season. Or are you just trying to call out excessive negativity when there isn’t any?

When you say there are many threads to moan, there are also many posters already who seem to go to every thread just to irritatingly tell people how negative they are and how everything around the club is rosy. It’s swings and roundabouts, when the right answer really is that there are things that are good about the club (young squad, genuinely world class player in Bruno, finally a DOF), and also things that can definitely be improved on (the whole board, Ole if he doesn’t win anything, McFred).

I think you may need to recheck those stats

But even if Martial has blagged his way to 30 goals this season he would still be one of the worst players in the league currently. He doesn't move.

Nah come on. Danny is really likeable, but he’s like Bambi On Ice.

I didn't label the entire Caf. Although it is a bizarre place. You'll learn.

One poster says they think we’ll win and we have better players but prefers the way Brighton play football.

You call that poster ‘and others like him’ very ‘blinkered and narrow minded’ for thinking that despite having it clearly explained to you what was meant by the comment.

One poster, who had nothing to do with that dialogue, then made a stupid comment about United and Burnley’s style of play and you go off on one, labelling the Caf a ‘bizarre place‘ with ‘the same old shite’ being posted.

15 years on the Caf and that’s your idea of interesting conversation. Clearly you won’t learn.

Genuinely wum of the year, had me creasing up

Sorry you feel that way, but he too is allowed to express his opinion and others may want to read up on that as well. You can perfectly read the tread and share positivity even if some people are being "negative". He seemed rather realistic than just negative anyway. This thread seems the perfect thread to compare Brighton and United and the type of football that they play. It's more than just a United is going to win 3-0 thread if I'm not mistaken.

Sorry to disappoint you Agent Smith.

You should add your input then?

Potter is clearly a good coach and Brighton outplayed us last time (didn't they hit the woodwork something crazy like 4 or 5 times?) so will be interesting to see how we approach this one. I fully back us to win but they are a tricky team and their results against other bigger clubs should give us some pause: Took 4 points off Pool, City and us only just beat them, they beat Spurs, they never really get hammered either and generally lose or win by +/-1 goal. For all the positives though, their attack is dross individually and our defence looks a lot better than it did when we play them - United will win this one, it just might not be as scintillating a performance as we'd hope.

So they are a team that is shit at the fundamentals of football?

Kind of, yeah. Which is why they’re only 6 points from the bottom 3.

They have decent spells throughout matches but their forwards really are just hopeless in front of goal. For instance, they average the 7th most shots per game (higher than Leicester, Arsenal, West Ham, and Tottenham) but all of the above have scored a considerable amount more of goals.

So contrary to what I’ve read on this thread, Brighton are not one of the best sides footballing sides in the PL?

I think we will win because Bruno and Rashford will tear them apart on the break, and Pogba will play a part which helps us win the game obviously. But make no mistake, Brighton plays better football than United and that will surely give a lot of "you need to give Ole more time to play good football"-people something to think about. That you don't need 10 world-class players or 3 years to do that. Potter is the superior coach and they would easily be top 10 if they were effective like United.

It will be interesting to see if De Gea starts over Henderson. I'm quite open in that regard. De Gea is a better shot-stopper and Henderson is more proactive. I don't know who I prefer for this game.

    Keeper
    AWB, Bailly, Maguire, Shaw
    McTominay, Pogba
    Amad, Bruno, Rashford
    Greenwood

Brighton play good football. Unfortunately for them, that suits us.

Think we will will win this either 2-0 or 2-1.

The posters above are right, they miss a proper goal scorer. Welbeck is Welbeck, lovely link up play at times but can't hit a barn door. Maupay works hard but is also not prolific.

Need to be careful with this one, prior to the Newcastle game their best results were coming against the top clubs.

They're a very good team that struggles to dictate opponents, they tend to match whoever they're against and will be more than wanting to avenge our win earlier this season.

That said, posters are probably right to highlight that their style is probably more suited to us and I reckon we'll win assuming our best players remain injury free over the international break.
