We need to match Atletico's energy and we can't do that with Ronaldo, Pogba, Matic and Maguire in the same team. Having a strong bench is reassuring in case things go wrong. Dalot will always concern me against good teams but it's not like AWB is putting in defensive masterclasses either. Overall it's a decent lineup with the same weakness in midfield that we have no matter who plays.

McTominay will have a brilliant game tonight and be the best player on the pitch, probably get motm..

Yeah probably, but not because I think he's particularly good, I just don't think our other defenders are any better
They don’t have a mistake in them as much as him. I think Maguire has become a liability at this point.

A midfield that I really don't like, as I've said on numerous occasions. The three of them are all too loose in possession to have on the pitch at once.

Having one or two of them on the pitch? Fine. All three at once? Turnovers galore. Hope they prove me wrong today.

Maguire over Lindelof is self harm at this point and I'd have preferred Pogba to Bruno, the rest is as expected, Rashford mustn't have access to the same leverage Maguire has so thankfully Elanga gets a start.

It’s the whole champions league squad on the bench. Obviously the squad has to have 3 goalkeepers. Every team will have three keepers in the match squad.

We have 4 goalkeepers registered in our 25, Grant is also in there and Luke Shaw is also in there too.

    McT and Maguire. Why??
    Strange decision regarding Pogba.
McTominay because we'll need his energy in midfield, Pogba doesnt offer much defensive support.

Maguire, well thats the million dollar question, I think its because his captain status. Benching him would unsettle the squad, but it should been done many months ago.

Feels more like a free shot with it being 1-1 at home. I know Atletico haven't been great either but we've sank quite low and seen problems in the dressing room and we've got a interim manager that hasn't won much. They're La Liga champions with Simone and have progressed further than we have multiple times. With our record and this season's timid displays my expectations are very low.

Our players probably won't be seeing CL football next year so they should go for it and not feel they could've done more if they get knocked out. Don't get bullied by these.

What's your issue with Mcominay? He's probably been our most consistent midfielder since Ralf took charge.
My issue is that week after eek i can't believe that championship quality player is starting for Man Utd. Sorry for having high standard for Man Utd midfielder. Guy can't pass or control bloody ball. As you will see today.
When we play with 3 of Fred, Pogba, Matic and Bruno, we play nice football

Maguire's been dropped a couple of times in the last month or so and it had no effect on the team whatsoever. Bruno can captain the side fine in his absence.

We are very likely to lose this and be knocked out of CL. After that we can all happily camp in ETH thread.

There are probably some players that are still behind him. That's my guess, because if not for that reason it must be that Ragnick thinks Maguire actually deserves to start based on his performances, and I like to think Ragnick is smarter than that.

Had a horrible suspicion that it was going to be McFred and was hoping to be proven wrong before the lineups were announced. I really hope we upgrade in this area in the summer as the prospect of playing those two every week is just grim.

Anyways that’s a discussion for another day. Hoping they both and the rest of the team get the result needed to progress into the quarters.

Surprised Atletico have dropped Kondogbia who pretty much ran the show in the 1st leg.

    Mctominay is championship level now?

That's Fred. McTominay has been consistently our worst midfielder all season

That's not even close to the truth.

    Urgh.

Let's have some positivity you lot, ffs. Big game under the lights at OT against a right bunch of whinging cnuts, we gotta be up for this

As he is captain, Mr England. Of course dropping him would cause unsettlement within the team.

A CB who can trace his lineage back beyond Charlemagne. I first met him atop a mountain near Leicestershire, praying to God, asking His forgiveness for the Greek blood spilt by his head. Next, he amazed me still further in Albania when he stopped a scoreless team, from the would-be ravishings, of the dreadful Balkan outfit.

In Manchester, he spent a year in silence, visiting the Etihad on match day. Just to better understand the sound of a whisper.

He is the one and the only, the Seeker of Serenity,

The Protector of the record of mid-table teams when playing against us,

The Enforcer of our Lord God OG,

    The One --

    The Only --

    Sir Harry Maguire !

Fingers crossed Fernandes finds a teammate or two with his passes in the first 15 this time around.
