PSV Eindhoven nicknamed Boeren (Peasants) and Lempkes (Light bulbs), are a professional football club based in Eindhoven, The Netherlands; and were founded in 1913 as Philips Sport Vereniging, a football club for the employees of Philips. PSV is one of the most successful clubs in the history of Dutch Football - winning 22 Eredivisie titles, 1 European Cup, 1 UEFA Cup, and 9 KNVB Cups among others; and in 1988, under Guus Hiddink, became only the second Dutch club to seal the historic treble, following Ajax in 1972. The club has a long-standing sporting with two other members of the Dutch Big Three, Ajax and Feyenoord. PSV Eindhoven play their home games in the Philips Stadion, and have fielded some of the greatest names in football history - Ronaldo, Ronald Koeman, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Eric Gerets, Romario, Ruud Gullit, Arjen Robben; apart from former and current United players, Park Ji Sung, Memphis and Jaap Stam.

Still recovering from that incredible 2nd half!

    Early Predicted Line-up:
    ______________________________________________________________________

    1. de Gea

    36. Darmian 12. Smalling 17. Blind 23. Shaw

    16. Carrick 28. Schneiderlin

    9. Martial
    ______________________________________________________________________

    Bench:
    20. Romero, 5. Rojo, 25. Valencia, 31. Schweinsteiger, 21. Herrera, 18. Young, 27. Fellaini

    Predicted Score:
PSV 0-3 Man United (Memphis, Martial, Rooney)

I don’t think he should play Tuesday, we don’t want to take any risks with our captain but you never know. It’s Saturday and we still have Sunday and Monday.

Louis van Gaal on whether Rooney will play against PSV in the Champions League

Can't predict any line ups til we hear about Rooney's injury situation. If he's fit, he comes back in.

Likewise, find a place for Young and bring Rojo back into the team for minutes and form.

I'd leave Martial for the bench. Let him start his career as a high impact sub as defences tire and game opens up.

    We're back bitchesss.

Martial isn't new to the CL, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him start this one. Then again, maybe Van Gaal will want to calm the hype down a bit and let him be another substitute again, which wouldn't upset me anyway.

Should be a good tie, especially for Memphis. Get the 3 points on the board, and avoid injuries. More of the same from today's second half and we'll be bouncing again Tuesday night.

Not sure whether Martial will start this. I want to slowly ease him in but I hate Fellaini up top. The lack of pace is crippling.

I think Young deserves a start but also think Memphis should start this. Memphis & Young out wide - pace and width.

Time for a predicted lineup (the numbers are their age):

    Zoet 23
    Arias 23 - Bruma 23 - Hector Moreno 27 - Brenet 21
    Propper 23 - Hendrix 20
    Narsingh 25 - Guardado 28 - Lestienne 23
    de Jong 25
Jeroen Zoet is the homegrown keeper. A good all-round keeper but prone to some silly goals still, generally he's very decent. Been called up for the NT a few times but never made the selection.

Jetro Willems is injured and definately won't play, this is a big loss for PSV. He's their biggest talent now Memphis has left and imo has the talent to one day play for a topclub. He has flair, a fantastic cross with both feet and can score too. He most likely will be replaced by Brenet, a young homegrown rightback. He has shown glimpses and is decent going forward but also makes mistakes every match, he's also not a leftback by nature and only plays because Poulsen most likely isn't fit enough to play who is the 2nd choice experienced leftback. A definate weak point.

It'll either be Hector Moreno or Isimat-Mirin at CB next to Bruma. Moreno was purchased late in the window as replacement for Rekik and is playing his debut tonight. Isimat-Mirin was on loan from AS Monaco last season and has decided to sign for PSV, he didn't get alot of gametime last year but has shown to be a good defender. About Moreno I don't know much yet but hope he is good. Bruma is an old Chelsea product and has been decent for PSV but also is prone to some howlers, not great on the ball either.

Arias is a great rightback. Endless stamina and speed to bomb forward and has a decent cross on him, he's also a fighter but defending isn't his strongest point. I foresee a good future for him.

Midfield I'm not 100% sure. These 3 are all playing tonight. Maher is doubtfull and most likely won't feature, he normally starts over the homegrown Hendrix. Hendrix is a left footed CDM/CB/LB who's very good defensively and has good workrate, but isn't that great going forward. He gets his games and shows promise, although he's still raw. Schaars might start over him, he's an 10 year older version of CDM Hendrix and less mobile, he was injured for 90% of last season and hasn't featured much yet since.

Propper was signed this window from Vitesse, a smart midfielder who adds a bit of everything. He's not like Wijnaldum in that he has bags of pace, power and finishing but he's more a passer. A good purchase from what I know and seen of him but I must admit I haven't watched Vitesse alot last year.

Guardado is the experienced player who was key in PSV becoming champions last year by coming on loan. A hard working midfielder who was benched in Spain and wanted to be loved by a club and settle with his family. He turned down more money elsewhere to live in the Netherlands and show leadership to the many young players. He barely speaks English or Dutch but leads by example. A great player with a good left foot and he plugs the holes all over the pitch, a terrific signing by PSV.

Narsing is PSV their Valencia. A fast one trick pony: run either to the byline and cross or cut inside and pass. If he cuts inside and shoots with his left he will miss. He showed great promise when signed from Heerenveen but suffered an ACL injury, he hasn't been the same since. Still a NT player behind Robben.

Lestienne was signed as Memphis his replacement on the left. A fantastic left foot and trickery, but is still a bit inconsistent. I have high hopes for him but he isn't the finished product yet.

De Jong might've been mocked in Germany and England, he's been brilliant for PSV. Scored 20 goals last season and 10 were headers, this year he's PSV their topscorer with 8 (he's on a hattrick as im typing this! might be more when I'm done).

    Honorable mentions who could feature:
Locadia. Homegrown striker, 2 footed and very lethal. Won't go past his man but will score in a 1v1. Wanted to leave this season but PSV blocked his move. Will most likely feature as a sub.
Pereiro: New signing, don't know too much about this lad yet.
Vloet/Paal/Bergwijn: All homegrown players who can be brought as offensive subs. None are consistent but they're PSV their best young talents who will feature this season.

I can't see PSV winning or even holding Manchester United to a draw. I'll happily answer questions about PSV.

Martial started against Arsenal and Juventus last year. we really shouldn't use Fellaini against PSV.

I'm dying to see Martial for 90 minutes, but I also wouldn't mind him starting on the bench to control the hype a bit.

Nice to see an oppo fan take the time to inform us of their team. Great post.

Like to see Memphis start, and Marcial as he's not a stranger to the CL.

Want to see Schweiny start as well but think he may get a rest after today's run around.

I'm going for 0 - 2. Our defence is so solid at the minute I just can't see us conceding against PSV unless it's a freak wonder goal like today.

Also, credit for the OP. As I was reading it I was thinking how well it was put together.

I'd rest both Carrick and Basti.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to write this out!

So a talented and in-form striker, a Zaha and a Valencia on the wings, a Milner-esque leader in central defence paired with a Blind and a Carrick, good right back, average central defenders and a weak left back. Basically good attack, competent midfield and weak defence. Doesn't look they will be pushovers, but shouldn't be too tough for us, either.

I have full faith in our defence, especially in Europe, and especially since Big Dave is back. We will be hard to score against.
Memphis, Mata, Herrera, Young are all good going forward, so we might cause some damage. Hopefully Martial picks up where he left.

Why do you think they can't even hold us to a draw, NL Max?

De Jong is a very good target man, strong in the air and lethal in the box, Benteke-esque and the main threat. Locadia went on a strike so now has to earn his place again. He scored tonight as a sub and it's said that he's been accepted in the group again, but I can't see him dislodging inform de Jong for a spot soon. Cocu sometimes plays Locadia out wide but I think he's terrible there, he most likely will be a sub for Lestienne/Narsingh.

Guardado is a workhorse, he sacrifices himself for the team but also adds to the attack. Maher is the creator, he can assist and score but doesn't defend alot- he's most likely injured. Hendrix is a poor version of Schneiderlin, just a very good defensive player who's a regular in the U21 NT. Propper is a good passer and also works his socks off, not sure how to describe him. Schaars has lost his place to Hendrix, I hope he can come back from his injury but the jury is still out on him since he hasn't played much since. I don't expect him to start, but he might.

I really like Isimat-Mirin, seems to understand the defensive part of the game well but he's still young.
Bruma is older and a better defender than passer of the ball, but not topclass (yet?). I personally don't think he should feature for the NT right now as he makes too many silly errors and dives in.
Hector Moreno I must admit I've only seen tonight in a 0-6 win vs Cambuur, but they got a red card and penalty in the 6th minute so wasn't tested.

The main reason I can't see PSV get a result sadly is inexperience. Brenet doesn't fill me with confidence at all yet, he's good in spells but can lead in awfull counters and pretty much does so every game. The team is very inexperienced, especially at top level. With Wijnaldum, Willems and Memphis I would've been alot more confident, without them PSV their deadliest weapon last season the counter, is a whole lot less effective. It would take some brilliance from Lestienne/Narsingh if they were to get a result vs United. The midfield battle will be interesting, but I think United's midfield is much stronger and therefore will win the game.

Former PSV coach Aad de Mos reckons Santiago Arias will "eat Memphis Depay raw" in the UEFA Champions League.

PSV defender Santiago Arias will dominate Memphis Depay when Manchester United visit Netherlands on Tuesday, Dutch coach Aad de Mos has declared.

Depay will make his return to his only previous professional club in United's first group stage fixture of the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League, with the 21-year-old having led PSV to the Eredivisie title last term with 22 goals in 30 matches.

But De Mos, who coached PSV from 1993 to 1995 and has also had stints with Ajax, Anderlect, Werder Bremen and Vitesse, reckons the Netherlands international will find it tough against former team-mate Arias.

"Depay is not going to get one bit of joy out of his return to Holland," De Mos told Omroep Brabrant.

"Santiago Arias, the Colombian international defender who knows him inside out, is going to eat him raw.

"Honestly, I am 100 per cent sure that Arias will wipe him out."

PSV have started their Eredivisie defence with three wins and two draws from five matches including a 6-0 thumping of Cambuur on Saturday.

Like United, they sit second in the league standings and De Mos reckons Philip Cocu's men have what it takes to knock off Depay and Co.

United defeated Liverpool 3-1 on Saturday to sit five points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City after five rounds but De Mos believes Louis van Gaal's central defensive pairing of Daley Blind and Chris Smalling will come under increased pressure in Eindhoven.

"Smalling is regarded as a great defender, but he isn't the best on the ball," the 68-year-old said.

"PSV have worked it out, they are going to let Smalling have the ball all the time. They know he is limited in his ideas."

De Mos added: "And if Daley Blind thinks he can come and enjoy a bit of freedom, or dominate the game again, then he will soon realise all the PSV players are going to be after him. They will not leave him alone."

I was thinking LvG might want to give Rojo and Valencia a game and rest our fullbacks but I imagine this is too important and he'll wait for the Capital One Cup game for that.

Despite playing badly I'd start Memphis against his old team and play Young on the right. I'd also start Martial as he has played CL football against Arsenal, Juve and Valencia, he should be able to handle PSV, and it would be great for him to start under the floodlights at Old Trafford on a CL night on the back of his debut goal.

I'd rest Schweini for this one as he's played 3 games in close succession and he'll be needed more for the trip to St Mary's.

Memphis didn't have a good game against Liverpool, but it would be harsh leaving him out of the PSV game, we saw how good he was against Club Brugge so this game could give him some confidence. Fellaini didn't Work as a striker, i would put Martial instead of him if Rooney is out.

I don't really want Martial to start, but I'd rather him than Fellaini. It's a good thing they haven't got Memphis/Wijnaldum/Willems (Thanks @NL Max). I'm fairly confident, going 2-0.

Their manager doesn't sound the brightest from those comments. Smalling really doesn't have many problems with distribution anymore, if he keeps it simple there's no problem. I do like watching the Eridivisie because the teams normally play entertaining football but defending in the league (for any team) is pretty shocking. PSV aren't an exception. I've said 3-0 to us but honestly we're well capable of scoring 5+ against them. De Jong is a decent striker but again, our defence isn't comparable to any Dutch defence, and it's arguably the strongest part of our team. I can't see us conceding, especially if Maher isn't fit to play. Narsingh is probably the biggest threat but I trust Shaw to keep him quiet. I'd also be very surprised if Memphis doesn't score in this game. A hat-trick for him wouldn't really surprise me that much. Without Memphis, Wijnaldum, Willems and probably Maher, it's difficult to see PSV causing any real threat.

Kind of odd that he would give away his tactics like that.. :D

When he says they'll stop Blind from 'dominating the the game again', does it sound to you like he thinks he'll be playing in midfield? It kinda does to me. I'm wondering how much of United he's actually seen this season, if at all.

Still recovering from that incredible 2nd half!

Why on gods earth would you not start schweinsteiger after that incredible performance

Tiredness. You have to manage the squad or there will be injuries. Carrick was subbed and so will be fresher for the game. We don't really need him to start against PSV anyway. Carrick also had an excellent game against Liverpool. Schneiderlin is 100% guaranteed to start I'd say. I still think it will be Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger playing against Southampton.

Their manager doesn't sound the brightest from those comments. Smalling really doesn't have many problems with distribution anymore, if he keeps it simple there's no problem. How do you infer the current PSV manager's intelligence from a former manager's comments?

    But he's not their manager.

Yes I understand that squads need to be rotated but schweinsteiger looked as fit as he has been for years against Liverpool so he really needs to continue building on that tbh. This game is one of the most important in the group and we can't afford to take them for granted so we really need our strongest team out.

Playing a midfield of Schneiderlin and Carrick isn't exactly 'taking them for granted'. Playing any combination of the 3 is still an excellent cm duo.
