Southampton Football Club (nicknamed The Saints) are a professional football club based in Southampton, Hampshire. Southampton were founded in 1885 by members of St Mary's Church of England Young Men's Association. St. Mary's Y.M.A., as they were usually referred to in the local press, played most of their early games on The Common where games were frequently interrupted by pedestrians insistent on exercising their right to roam. More important matches, such as cup games, were played either at the County Cricket Ground in Northlands Road or the Antelope Cricket Ground in St Mary's Road. The club was originally known as St. Mary's Young Men's Association F.C. (usually abbreviated to "St. Mary's Y.M.A.") and then became simply St. Mary's F.C. in 1887-88, before adopting the name Southampton St. Mary's when the club joined the Southern League in 1894.

Southampton play their home games at St. Mary's Stadium, and were one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992. The club has a long-standing sporting rivalry with Portsmouth in a match termed the South Coast Derby or the Hampshire Derby. Southampton has received praise for employing an intense brand of football under Mauricio Pochettino, and having one of the best youth systems on English soil — which has churned out the likes of Alan Shearer, Gareth Bale, Matth Le Tissier, Theo Walcott, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, James Ward-Prowse, Calum Chambers, Adam Lallana over the years — as well as current Manchester United leftback, Luke Shaw.

Need to stay focused. Different test for us. Win this one and I think we might be on our way.

Don't care who lines up as long as they bring the same energy and intensity.

    Casemiro De Jong
    Antony Sancho Rashford

    One can dream..

Can't wait for this game now....
Worried about how we will cope with JWP corners though with our lack of height.

Adding Casemiro to the XI means teams won’t bypass our midfield by default. The amount of corners against will drop significantly.

I'll enjoy tonight as Southampton away is a cnut of a game even if you're absolutely flying (which we're not)

    Dalot - Varane - Martinez - Malacia
    ----------------- Casemiro ---------------
    ----------- VdB ------- Eriksen ---------
    Antony -------------------------- Sancho
    --------------------- Martial ---------------

Sub Rashford and Gakpo for Antony and Sancho.

    Soton 0 : 1 Manchester United.

Soton are shit. We win here and get Hasenhuttl sacked. This is the way.

Confirmation game. Absolute must win. Need to keep that sane level of intensity.

    DDG
    Dalot Varane Martinez Malacia
    Fred Casemiro Eriksen
    Sancho Martial Rashford

Every match is tough in the PL, and this one will be no different. Hope we make a few more signings before this match. But I am excited to watch.

Biggest game of the season now. Drop points and we go back a step

Yep, really key to gaining a bit of momentum. Imagine the scenes if we revert back to a performance like Brighton or Brentford. feck me.

I really hope the players can put in the same energy levels as tonight against a more modest opponent.

Wishful thinking, but I'm just very curious to see how he would work in that midfield. I think it could be great. He gets in there and in general is a more balanced option between attack and defense. Bruno and Eriksen just don't work together on the pitch. And I prefer Eriksen ahead of Bruno. Casemiro makes McTominay a non-starter. Fred is too erratic, but I could see him start instead.

Hopefully we will build on tonights win but you never know

    Let's fecking go

3 points would be great but won't be easy. Southampton away is usually difficult for us, even we won in the past it was some crazy 3-2 comeback wins, it's never a comfortable game there.

Need to string a few wins together.. will take 3 points no matter how they come.. good football would be a bonus.

10-0, Casemiro getting subbed off at half time with a hat trick of hat tricks and De Gea getting the tenth from the spot kick after a Messi-esque run. I think we will struggle…

It's hard to justify not picking the same XI... However, I think we have to seriously consider starting Martial & Casemiro over Elanga & McTominay. Just saying that out loud really does sound like a monumental upgrade without wanting to be too disrespectful (they were both excellent against Liverpool).

Just depends on overall fitness, but I think they could both start the game and then be subbed after 60-70 minutes rather than doing it the other way around.
