If he stayed, I would be very surprised if he got anything close to 15 appearances and I'd be shocked if as many as 5 of those were from starts.

Going by the rumour mills:

Forwards: Morata, Belotti, Rashford

Attackers: Mkhitaryan, Mata, Martial, Lingard,

Midfielder: Pogba, Herrera, Fabinho(?), Fellaini

I wouldn't be surprised if it's two midfielders we buy either which would make it 12 players for 6 positions. He doesn't have a hope of getting into that team without some sort of crazy injury crisis.

You're crazy if you think we'll pay 60 and 70 million for Morata and Belotti, respectively, to sit one of them on the bench.

It will most likely be Martial instead of Belotti or Morata.

Morata, Rashford, Martial

He was never going to leave. a club would have to offer him insane wages, realising that he is done at a reasonable level. Let him sit on the bench

If he stays must be confirmed that Moyesy's decision to hand him him a 5 year deal is the biggest waste of money of all time in football. Would be almost £80 million down the toilet.

I doubt there is a manager stupid enough to sign him. The gap between performances and wages will be hard to swallow. It is huge.

£130m? That's chump change in the transfer market these days. We've currently got 1 striker, Rashford. Martial is not a striker and never has been, he's a wide forward. The one thing we are missing right now is goals and lots of them. It makes perfect sense to bring in two strikers capable of scoring 20+ goals and between Rashford and those two there would be plenty of games and both Belotti and Morata are flexible and hard working enough to make it work. Between 3 strikers for two spots that would be 40 starts each in a 60 game season plus sub appearances. If we assume we'll play 1 striker up top in half the games and average it to 1.5 spots then it's 30 starts each plus sub appearances.

It makes perfect sense, we have 1 striker right now and that's two to few. Why not buy two top quality ones and aspire to have a Champions League quality squad?

If we get a second striker it will be somebody like Defoe, Morata + experienced striker worth at most £15M makes more sense than spending £130M on two strikers.

Can we force him out. With the rooney out plane banners and all.

Agree to disagree, I also didn't realize all his family bludged off him, do they not have their own jobs?

Most footballers look after their extended family. I didn't say they lived off him, simply he helps them out. In laws go on every holiday with them as far as I know.

He can drink beer on matchdays, cheer the team from one of exclusive boxes and keep on growing fat. There shouldn't be a place for him on the bench. Out of 7 spots we see them distributed usually by default as in 1 for a goalkeeper, 2 are reserved for defenders, 1 for central midfielder, 1 for striker (pool of Rashford, Martial, Morata), 1 for winger. Why would we give the last one left to Rooney instead of adding another midfielder, winger or striker? What's the point?!

Its so sad. He was one of the most exciting and hard working players England, and to an extent Utd ever had.
I remember him saying in an interview a good few years ago that he had nothing to prove to anyone in football his record speaks for itself blah blah.

Since then he has been utter tripe. If the lad had any dignity left he would take a cut, go back to his boyhood club and work his ass off for his last couple of seasons and remind the world how he once was a wonderful player and try getting back into the Englad squad for a last world cup.

If she stays at Utd he will ruin his legacy completely for me.

COME ON WAYNE LAD go back to Everton for one last hurrah. Theres still a few goals left in you!

Why? Our attack is severely under powered. How about we shake this mentality of aiming to be a Top 4 team or title challenging team and start thinking about how we put ourselves into the same bracket as Real, Bayern, Barca and Juve.

Thank God for that. The last thing we want at United is players who want to come here for the wages!

That's disingenuous and you know it. Having a player who claims to want to play football and also claim to have loads of offers deciding to stay because he'll lose a few quid is totally different and indefensible. If he wants the money that's fine but don't come out with all this crap about being a footballer at heart that just wants to play. If he stays it's either because nobody wants him or because he values money over a respectful end to his career.

Literally hope that if he does that we go whole hog and he never makes the match squad again.

But he just wants to play.......

He knows he's finished, like the world does.

Spending £130M on two strikers who probably wouldn't play together won't get us into that bracket. It's not like Juve/Bayern/Barca have great young strikers sitting on the bench, Real do and he's leaving. Somebody like Mandzukic would be perfect and would save us £50M to spend elsewhere.

As much as Rooney probably wants to stay on 250k a week or whatever he's on, I don't think he'll stay.

I think if he did, Mourinho would exile him Schweinsteiger style and I'm sure Rooney wants to play

Why wouldn't they play together? I think they'd be a great partnership, both can drop deep, Morata can go wide and Belotti can do the dirty business deep. In addition to that they'd both compliment Rashford well. It makes perfect sense.

Look at the sets of strikers we used to have. That is how League titles are won, Fergie knew the score.

I saw him in the testimonial, during which against retired defenders, he didn't look out of place.
It really was disgusting to see retired footballers play as well as Rooney (one of the most highest paid players of all time).
If we keep Rooney, we may as well sign some retired players. After they start training, they'll improve their fitness and will probably perform better than Rooney.

Sure the talk was we'd have to pay him off, which if we are willing to do will leave no excuses for him to finally move on.

I was there as well and you're absolutely right, he did not look out of place...... it was a little embarrassing tbh. It looked like Seedorf and Ji Sung Park were the ones who were still playing and Rooney was long retired. Quite sad actually...

Think we need to make up the difference of what he would get elsewhere and just get him out of the club. I don't think it's fair that he takes the place of younger hungrier players on the bench. That kind of thing doesn't help to move the club forward.

What would annoying me no end is if he was keeping Andreas Pereira out of the match day squad.
We don't owe him a spot on the bench.

Maybe these rumours of him seeing his contract out come from Rooney's camp because we're not willing to pay him as much as he wants to leave.

Well then the club and JM need to stop using the 'soft' approach and make him aware that he'll more than likely not even make the match day squad never mind the old bench. We haven't got time to keep pandering to him at the expense of other players who deserve their chance.

We can pay him up the final 12 months of his deal, but we can't be expected to make up the difference for any new deal he gets elsewhere, would rather keep him if that was the case and just play in the carling cup, personally I'd be amazed if he was here at the en of August though.

Did anyone really think he was just going to meekly disappear to an Everton or someone, on way less money without a whisper?

Although a few reports are quoting 1 year left on his deal, I'm sure almost every account had it as a 5 1/2 year deal in Feb 2014, which makes 2 years left on 250k a week.

For a guy who is good at one thing, who may find his money earning capacity drops off the face of a cliff, and he needs to fill 40-50 years of life, why on earth would be drop 100-150k a week?
That or move to the other end of the world?

We'll end up having to drop him £10m or so to push things through.

Final year is optional. We can bin him next summer if he decides to stay.

Good, we shouldn't have to really, we should just call his bluff and see if he is willing to have virtually zero first team playing time next season, and be prepared to play for the reserves, he wouldn't, and will go in the end imo.

I understand that you want him out, and so do I. But that would never happen at our club with the legend that Rooney is. Nor would I like to see it happen.

Thought he had ambitions to play in the 2018 WC.

He won't do that spending the year on our bench.
